Red columbine is the most widely distributed of the native columbines, it is very impressive in the large, naturalized colonies that form in a variety of habitats from open, lowland meadows to shaded alpine forests. It takes it's name form the Latin word for beautiful - formosa. Red with yellow flower.
Once established, you can collect the numerous black seeds by holding your hand under the dried pods and breaking them open. We broadcast the gathered seed in areas where we want others to naturalize. They germinate by sunlight, and don't need to be covered. |
