Goatsbeard is a robust perennial with very attractive leaves and tall spikes of thin, white flowers.  It spreads by rhizomes creating dense clusters in moist, somewhat shaded sites.  Best placed between trees as a filler or edging for the woodland setting.  I find it much easier to grow than the astilbes, but it offers a similar appearance.
