Deer Fern is a widely distributed, attractive woodland fern.  It's fronds are dimorphic - having two distinct forms.  The primary frond is sterile and spreads horizontally, the fertile fronds stand erect to three feet. 

All that said, it's just a very good, easy fern to grow that can be tucked into crevasses, pots, logs, or any spot in need.
