Castillija spp. Indian paintbrush | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
Indian Paintbrush has bright red (or orange in our area) flowers to 2 feet tall. Early blooming, forming colonies in sun or light shade. Thought to be a root parasite that seems to do best planted amongst cedars and pines.
Even though these showy plants form large colonies in our area, they are not particularly easy to grow nor establish. They tend to grow in dryer situations and like many such plants, resent watering from late spring on. Well worth the effort for the patient gardener. |
