| This is not a fuchsia. It is not even in
the same plant family as fuchsias. The flowers are, however, down-hanging tubes, that must
to someone somewhere mean fuchsia. Common names can be difficult.
'Yellow Trumpet' is a very descriptive name for this plant. The tubes are a wonderful soft yellow, dangling out in showy groups at the ends of branches beyond the rich green, shiny leaves. The bloom period is from late spring til early winter, with flush upon flush of leafy shoots terminating in a cluster of flowers. For us, the leaves are evergreen, remaining unscathed even below 20F. It should be hardy from the roots significantly below that. This plant is tolerant of just about anything. It will do fine in full sun (with irrigation), and grow and bloom well with only a few hours of sun. Any soil type will do, even poorly drained locations, and it will survive for years (personal experience, here) crowded in a container and continue blooming. I am always amazed it is not more common.
